What better way to kick off this election day than by posting another amazing punk band: The American Plague. I photographed them as a 3-piece band at their 2008 show, when they opened for horror-punk legends The Misfits on December 3, 2008. This was also around the time they released their third full-length album, Heart Attack. Which I highly recommend.

Rule of thumb when requesting to shoot a band was asking at least a week in advance. When I saw the advert for the American Plague opening for the Misfits, I had only about 2 days before the show, so I never requested the Misfits set. Still, I was in contact with James and Dave of the American Plague and was soon put on their guest list to shoot their set. The images below are what I came away with; these are the standouts, though I’ll add quite a few more later. Overall, the show was amazing, energetic…fun. Though this was around 17 years ago, I can still remember a bit more than I thought I would. Time hasn’t robbed me of all my memories; I have photographs like these to remind me of particular moments.

I am eternally grateful to this band for letting me into their world, because they allowed me to do what I love. And because the show wasn’t particularly crowded, and nobody told me to leave afterward, I stuck around to try and get some images of the Misfits. Nobody asked me to leave or tried to stop me. I told myself to hold on to this golden moment, and I owe it to the American Plague for giving this moment to me.

The American Plague is James “Jaws” Alexander (Vocals and Guitar), Dave Dammit (Vocals and Bass), and Todd Bryant (Drums).
